OUR EVOLUTION

alchemia-nova was founded in Vienna in the year 2000 by Hanswerner Mackwitz, an eco-pioneer of the early days. The company alchemia-nova research & innovation gemeinnützige GmbH was established as a non-profit spin-off in 2019 with the goal to promote know-how on nature-based solutions and circular economy principles for the wider benefit of society. Our unique strength lies in creating out-of-the-box solutions by combining different disciplines. We strive to bridge sectoral boundaries and knowledge systems, connect the dots and use a systems thinking approach for potentially disruptive and game-changing innovations that can make our societies and environments fit for the future.

Our team combines specialists in stakeholder engagement, strategic programming, engineering, environmental science, economics, and outreach and capacity building.  This uniquely positions us to provide consulting and research services to public and private actors at all scales and in a diversity of economic sectors.

In 2024, the shareholding of the research and innovation institute was taken over by five employees (four of them women), with extensive experience in alchemia-nova’s fields of work. The team of five is dedicated to the ambitious goal to mainstream circular economy and nature-based solutions principles into climate action, urban development, agriculture and industries.
