As part of the Inspire Europe project, we are thrilled to host a Blue Economy event highlighting  𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.♻️

We’re excited to welcome Daniel Steinitz, Head of Technology & Innovation Management at bündnis mikroplastikfrei, to our upcoming event!
He will present:

Plastics are versatile, cost-effective, and durable — qualities that make them invaluable materials. But when used for single-use packaging of perishable goods like bread, fruits, and vegetables, this durability becomes a problem. When such packaging ends up in the wrong waste streams or in the environment, it creates long-lasting pollution.

Daniel’s talk will explore why this packaging segment urgently 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭: 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞-𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝.

Daniel Steinitz studied “Environmental and Bioresource Management” at the BOKU University in Vienna. For several years he has been working in the field of renewable energies for the Austrian Solar Energy Association before moving to the compost department of the Austrian Compost & Biogas Association in 2020, where he was involved intensively with the topic of microplastics and compostable packaging. At the end of 2021, he took over the management of “bündnis mikroplastikfrei”, which was founded on the initiative of the Austrian Compost & Biogas Association.

As of July 2025, Daniel heads Technology and Innovation Management, where his work reflects a strong commitment to advancing practical solutions for microplastic reduction.

His talk will provide valuable perspectives on where we are and where we’re heading in reducing plastic pollution.
