Capacity Building

Transforming agricultural bio-waste into valuable bio-products, addressing unemployment and bio-waste management issues through capacity building in agro-entrepreneurship.

The value

Conduct extensive research on local agricultural waste management systems and disposal practices, focusing on core knowledge and relevant data. Design and implement training formats based on best practices and existing competencies, transitioning from unsustainable waste management to circular treatment methods for agricultural by-products, while addressing unemployment and enhancing agro-entrepreneurship.

Our service

Waste management poses a major challenge to the adoption of a circular economy model in many areas. The agriculture sector generates a significant amount of bio-waste in rural communities, which struggle with inadequate infrastructure for proper disposal. Landfilling is the most commonly used waste disposal method, even though it is the least preferred option according to the waste management hierarchy. When bio-waste is dumped in landfills, it undergoes anaerobic decomposition (due to the absence of oxygen), producing methane. Despite efforts to eliminate illegal dump sites, they persist, posing a serious public health risk, especially due to hazardous waste and groundwater contamination. Our capacity-building initiative empowers young people in agro-entrepreneurship by converting bio-waste into valuable bio-products through innovative circular business models. This approach not only generates employment but also safeguards the environment in rural regions.

Field work:

  • Extensive Research: Conduct in-depth research on local agricultural waste management systems and disposal practices in rural areas, focusing on core knowledge, relevant data, and methodologies.
  • Legal Analysis: Collect information on existing laws and assess the extent of their implementation.
  • Training Design: Design training formats based on best practices and existing knowledge, skills, and competencies, transitioning from unsustainable waste management solutions to circular treatment methods for agricultural by-products.
  •  Training Implementation: Implement and conduct trainings in agriculture waste valorization, circular business models, and the development of by-products.
