I had the honor of representing the GEORGIA EU Project at the IWA Nutrient Removal and Recovery Specialist Conference in Delft in May 2026.

It was encouraging to see so many different contributions focusing on nutrient recovery from wastewater, all sharing a common understanding: given the energy-intensive nature and vulnerability of current fertilizer supply chains, recovering nutrients from wastewater is not just beneficial – it’s necessary.

Throughout the sessions, questions of social acceptance and legal frameworks came up repeatedly  and I firmly believe that research projects and real-world demonstrations of feasibility play a key role in moving these conversations forward.

I’m proud that at alchemia-nova , we are contributing our part to this paradigm shift – including through the GEORGIA EU Project , where we are demonstrating the verteco green wall system for on-site treatment and reuse of domestic wastewater for local market garden food production.

Thanks also to my dedicated colleagues walking this path together: Marco Hartl, Maria Wirth, Sarah Gilani, Heinz Gattringer, Sandra Nicolics and many more 🌱
