
On the 18th of June 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting the workshop ๐๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐พ๐๐ง๐๐ช๐ก๐๐ง ๐๐๐ค๐ฃ๐ค๐ข๐ฎ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ & ๐๐ค๐ฌ๐๐ง ๐ผ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ at the Education Lab in Vienna โ and what an inspiring afternoon it was!

Each presentation highlighted a different angle of working towards a circular economy, showcasing practical solutions, innovative approaches and real-world examples that are already making a difference. The second part of the workshop was a deep-dive on three material streams with significant circularity potential: Stale Bread, Apricot stones and Used Cooking Oil Through interactive focus group discussions, stakeholders from across the value chain explored opportunities, bottlenecks and the conditions needed to scale possible circular solutions.
We even had the chance to taste already existing innovative best practices, like spirits from ๐๐ฐ๐ค๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐ป๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐จ and bread-beer from ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ถ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ช ๐๐ณ๐ถ๐ช๐ฃ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ฆ๐ณ, both made from stale bread, as well as chocolate and milk-alternatives from ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ค made from apricot residues and ๐๐ฆ๐ช๐ฆ๐ณ bread chips made from stale bread.
As an underlying approach to develop those kinds of circular transition pathways, we also introduced alchemia-nova’s analytical methodology, which combines ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐น๐ผ๐ ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ (๐ ๐๐) and ๐ ๐๐น๐๐ถ-๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ (๐ ๐๐๐) to support the transition towards a circular economy in a scientifically robust and practice-oriented way. The enabling approach was developed with the RURBANIVE Project EU. While MFA helps identify and quantify waste and side streams, uncovering opportunities for resource recovery and circular value creation, MCDA enables the systematic evaluation of different valorisation pathways across ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น, ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฑ๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐. Together, these methods provide a holistic basis for decision-making and help identify the most sustainable and feasible circular solutions.
