We have completed the installation of a new nature-based filter system at Langvatnet Lake, Norway, treating contaminated effluent from an abandoned mine!

alchemia-nova partnered with UiT Norges arktiske universitet and Statskog SF to implement a filter pathway and a two-stage treatment wetland. Together they treat the acidic, heavy metal-rich effluent that flows from the mining site into the lake. The system is designed to raise the pH and remove heavy metals before the water reaches the lake.

The installation is one of the three demonstration sites of the ProCleanLakes EU Project, which is developing evidence-based guidelines for the long-term restoration and protection of European natural lake ecosystems and biodiversity.
