♻️ What happens to sewage sludge and how can we unlock its circular potential? 🌾📉
We were delighted to share insights from our work in Pongau (Salzburg) at the recent Community Lunch hosted by Climate Lab. Thank you for creating such an open space for exchange!
As part of our FUTURAL Project, Tamara Vobruba (Co-Managing Director, alchemia-nova) and Max Läuger, Researcher and Scientific Project Manager, presented our work in Radstadt, where we are exploring alternative use concepts for sewage sludge from the local wastewater treatment plant.
Currently, this valuable material is incinerated, and the ash is landfilled. But what if we looked at it differently?
At alchemia-nova, analysing material flows and making them usable for the circular economy is at the core of what we do. In Radstadt, we are assessing options such as:
- Phosphorus recovery
- Biochar production
- Sludge Drying Reed Beds (SDRB) technology
These solutions highlight the untapped potential within regional material streams, especially in rural areas across Europe.
