🌍 From forest fires to flooded plains and parched farmland, Europe’s regions face very different climate risks. Nature-based solutions can support resilience to all of them. This is what we are working on within the REHUBS EU Project, with partners all over Europe.
Beginning of October, Eriona Canga, assisted by Romina Ambika Schreuer, facilitated a workshop with leaders and practitioners of demo and replication sites in 🇪🇸 Spain, 🇵🇹 Portugal, 🇬🇷 Greece, 🇸🇮 Slovenia, 🇨🇾 Cyprus, 🇱🇹 Lithuania and 🇭🇷 Croatia to explore which NbS can make the greatest difference in their contexts on the ground.
What NbS can deliver for these regions and beyond:
🔥 Well-managed forests and landscapes that contain wildfires
🌊 Restored floodplains and riverbanks that protect towns and fields from erosion
💧 Rainwater harvesting and retention ponds that carry communities through dry spells
🌱 Soils rich in organic matter that hold moisture better
🌳 Trees, hedgerows and native habitats that protect farmland and restore biodiversity
While the solutions exist, turning them into everyday practice depends on the right funding, governance and policy frameworks. REHUBS steps in here, facilitating regional hubs that bring authorities, experts and communities to the same table.
