Eriona Canga presents insights from the EU ProCleanLakes project in Gdańsk at the WETPOL2025

From 7–11 September in Gdańsk, alchemia-nova (ANRI) joined #WETPOL2025. Eriona Canga presented insights from the EU ProCleanLakes project on advancing 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The project is coordinated by BOKU University and unites 18 partners from 11 countries to demonstrate innovative routes to healthier freshwater ecosystems. 💧

Also present was Marco Hartl, contributing within the EU-funded project CARDIMED EU, where alchemia-nova focuses on transferability and replication of NBS from Mediterranean contexts to Central Europe. Conference highlights spanned treatment wetlands, green walls, river and wetland restoration, and SuDS/urban water management.

A memorable part of the conference was the excursion organised by Hashtag#GdanskWater showcasing multiple SuDS and a strong policy lever: public building tenders must ensure on-site buffering of 30 mm rainfall—achieved in aesthetically pleasing ways through green infrastructure/SuDS. This accelerates uptake, strengthens climate adaptation and resilience, reduces long-term costs, and enhances public health and liveability (e.g., mitigating urban heat islands)
